''This year, the challenge I set for myself is to concentrate on flowers and insects. So every time the sun comes out, I'll be grabbing my camera, tripod and macro lens to explore more of the fascinatingly beautiful microscopic world.''
David's love of photography began at the age of twelve with a Kodak Box Brownie in the local park. Forty years later, he still enjoys, just as much, the thrill of isolating particularly beautiful aspects of nature, capturing them and displaying them as a pick-me-up during the long months of Winter.
David spent the first eight years of his adult life working for some of London's leading photographers in fields as diverse as fashion, advertising, portraiture and cars. He then ran his own studio, working mainly on still-life and portraits for magazines and design groups. David then moved into printing and print finishing, leaving behind the world of commercial photography to specialise in more 'artistic' work.
Last year's purchase of a fixed 105mm macro lens, has led to an exploration of the microscopic world. ''With slightly deteriorating eyesight, it is an absolute gift to be able to see intricate details of insects and flowers not clear with the naked eye. Sometimes the way the foreground an background go so far out of focus, these blurry parts can be as fascinating as the subject itself''.
