My passion is abstract painting, mainly mixed media – working by layering colour on colour which can take months.
I studied fine art at Oxford Brookes University as a mature student gaining a BA (Hons) Degree. I and several other artists procured for rent an old warehouse which we turned into art studios, these were the first artist run studios in Oxford centre and we held regular exhibitions and workshops.
In 1997 I designed and painted a large mural for the visitors centre at HMP Bullingdon. I then worked part time as a lecturer at Milton Keynes College, teaching art and for Oxford City Council in conjunction with Fusion the community arts centre funded by Southern Arts. I was responsible for setting up a pilot scheme for using art as a facilitator for getting the young homeless back into education – this was a success and gained funding.
On returning to Kent in 2001 I worked part time for KCC running art projects at the youth centre and lecture at HMP Elmley.
I regularly paint portraits of people and pets and paint murals in private homes and businesses – a large scale mural can be viewed in Sittingbourne Snooker Centre.
