Kiln fused glass on wood plinth
I think introverts sometimes get a bad press. True, they can sometimes seem a bit prickly, and they keep everything inside. So the focus here is on that internal space. But although the ‘spikes’ might look a bit aggressive, when the light shines through them in the right way, they really glow and are actually quite lovely. So a bit of a metaphor there. In fact, a characteristic of some of the red glasses used in this work, the whole piece glows when the sun is behind it. But when the sun goes down and lights in the room come on, they bounce off the dichroic red slivers on the surface, which then spring out visually. There are also some darker shapes in places, some just below the surface so that they only show up in certain lights. And a tiny hole just to one side of the large space. It’s a small thing, you might not notice it at first. But it’s another little area of interest. Introverts are multi layered beings, you see?
